15/03/07 - Garden Judging!

Today was judging for the school garden competition. The 24hrs previous had seen a HUGE storm come through complete with hail, wind and FREEZING temps so I suspect none of the gardens were at their best. I was at work but Gerards Dad (visiting from Perth) took the kids up there and staged a quick tidy up before the judges arrived! The 2 judges commented on A's potatoes and E's Basil as being the best they had seen. The photo is of A and the 2 judges.
Results are announced next week.

We have never grown potatoes before - yesterday we dug up the first plants - I took this photo as the rest were roasting up in the oven......mmmmm fresh new potatoes!!

13/03/07 - Mini Corn

We had some corn that we planted in too much shade, they never grew very tall at all but they bravely still tried to produce cobs.
Today we harvested their cobs, not at all sure what we'd find within the husk and there they were - tiny but so YUMMY.

17/02/07 - Not Yet Blackberries

When we bought the land I think the blackberry must have been recently sprayed or removed in some way so there wasn't much around - but over the last 15mths we have had it resprouting all over the place - will be interesting to see how many berries we get.

Watching seeds grow is just the most amazing thing - one day you see nothing - then POP up they come! These are Broccoli seedlings.

8/11/06 - Planting.

SEEDLINGS! and seeds too (you just can't see them cause they are PLANTED!). Yes, I am a BIT over excited about having a vege garden again! Trying to resist the urge to haunt the garden centre daily and plant up the whole thing now (having read its best to stagger plantings). And yes, even though A and E helped me with most of the actual planting it was J that, again, gets his photo taken. I promise - more photos of A and E will be coming!

As of this afternoon we have a vege garden - not quite finished (or very planted) but definitely looking like a vege garden!! Is it wrong to be this excited about small patchs of tilled earth??
